Disgrifiad

In this work, a novel crack-closure system is developed, using PET shape memory polymer fibres embedded in a mortar mix. The material has shape memory properties so upon thermal activation the fibres will shrink. A single knot manufactured at both ends of the fibresprovides a mechanical an- chorage to the mortar matrix. Mortar samples were pre-cracked and placed in an oven to thermally activate the polymers and induce shrinkage into the fibres. Crack-closure was measured in the range 50–100%, depending on the geometry, aspect ratio and distribution of the fibres.

In the dataset readers can find information on the samples studies (dimension of the beams and fibre content), and the measured crack width before and after thermal activation (in mm). Crack width was measured by optical microscope and data collected were then processed using AutoCad.

A relation between fibre content in % (in x-axis) and crack-closure in % (in y-axis) is also included.

Research results based upon these data are published at http://doi.org/10.1016/j.cemconcomp.2020.103757
