The project aims to improve the processing of injection coal in the
blast furnace. The devolatilisation, combustion, and gasification behaviour of
injection coal particles are tested experimentally using a drop tube
furnace to provide some process similarities with the blast furnace. Particular
attention is paid to the agglomeration of coal particles due to rheological changes
during heating, and the resultant performance implications of this.
